It seems to me that Netflix is no longer trying to compete with Blockbuster or Redbox.  Netflix is trying to compete with HBO.  It’s trying to become a premium network … but one that’s not tethered to your cable plan.  You’ll get some newer movies and some new programming.  Consumers who are used to having access to every movie will be disappointed.  But people who just want a premium cable experience without paying for cable will probably be pretty pleased with the product.  And at some point, Netflix might force HBO to think about untethering HBO GO from the cable market.  I wouldn’t be completely surprised to see a Netflix cable channel at some point either.
