Buzz Feed has the Newt marriage video. Well played, Ben Smith, well played.
It would be bad enough if Gingrich were some kind of evil genius, able to manipulate right-wing voters through innovative and brilliant psychological nuance and suggestion. But it’s worse here, because he’s not doing anything special; his skills are pedestrian, and yet the audience eats it up. He’s playing, it seems, to a room full of sheep. It shouldn’t work; the fact that it does is terrifying to me.
My worst fear: They thought Nixon was done, and then came 1968.
There’s an awful lot of Nixon in Gingrich.
