Obama and Antitrust, Part II

Following up on this, I want to make another point.  Obama suggested that he might want to use antitrust law to sue and break-up media companies.  Is anyone else worried about a politician that wants to use state police power to break-up and disband media companies?

And isn’t there something very sinister underlying Obama’s call for antitrust scrutiny?  Isn’t this all about Rupert Murdoch and Fox News?  Democrats don’t like Fox news; they believe that Fox is not “fair and balance,” and frankly, they are right.  Fox has a conservative bent.  If Obama becomes President and the Democrats retain Congress, Fox would be an opposition media outlet, for sure.  And if Democrats tried to use Government power to shut down or hinder Fox, then what exactly would the difference be between them and Hugo Chavez?

Is Obama threatening freedom of speech and freedom of the press?  Yes.  Was this an accident?  No.  Obama is a smart man.  He was the editor of the Harvard Law Review.  He taught Constitutional Law.  He knows what he is saying.  And that’s worth being worried about.
