Obama took questions from Republican members of congress on television today. This is a highly unusual practice for a President. I’d like to see him do this more often.
I found this exercise to be very entertaining. I thought he was owning fools.
And so I cannot imagine why the Republicans would agree to continue this (especially in its televised format).
Anyone less predisposed to side with Obama see it differently?
I’m less predisposed to side with Obama, so I’ll bite.
This bit from Obama, like most of what he says, is ridiculous political posturing. Baker, Dole, and Daschle are basically “well-paid corporate hacks, who have raked in funds from the private health care industry.” That they support something like the current health care bill isn’t proof that the bill is a centrist bill; it’s proof that it’s a insurance-lobbyist’s bill. For Obama to pretend that this means anything more or less than this is disingenuous.
For the uniformed masses, it will look like Obama has made a great, winning point. But it’s all smoke and mirrors, and it’s a shame, because when we are talking about something as important as health care, we deserve more than smoke and mirrors.
