Our schools ought to give our children the information and skills they need to make intelligent political choices. They ought not make the choices for them.
I’m troubled by government run education. A state-run school is likely to be partial to the state, and this is likely to be reflected in their teachings. (I clearly remember my own schooling: Gilded Age=Bad; New Deal=Good).
The indoctrination of the young sets the framework by which all future electoral decisions are made. People are imparted biases that they can’t see, and these biases stay with them throughout their lives. It is very hard to convince a population educated by the state that there should be limits on the state.
I’m sure some of the students at New Rochelle will grow up to question authority and power. But I suspect that most will be mindless sheep, because that’s what we’ve taught them to be.
